Introduction
The Basics of BIM course provides a high-level overview of the business case for BIM and what BIM is. The Basics of BIM is aimed as an introduction for those attending the Essentials of BIM, incorporating ISO 19650, as well as for those who need to understand the business case and drivers which are requiring Building Information Modelling and Information Management as a method of supporting industry objectives, such as Construction 4.0, digital twins, and the golden thread.
Construction needs to improve. Drivers, research, and industry reports have highlighted for decades the why, and how, AEC needs to get better. BIM was offered as a solution and the decade from 2011 to 2021 saw the rise of fall of BIM Level 2. But many questions remain:

Introduction
Developing out of the UK BIM Level 2 standards and requirements, ISO 19650 provides a series of international standards which identifies many of the processes, requirements and responses required to deliver BIM as information management. But Information Management cannot exist
as a silo and must be consistent with the existing and developing standards and processes requiring efficiencies in delivery for the AEC industry. This course helps delegates in understanding the key concepts and principles in adopting an ISO 19650 approach to information management, as well as the importance of identifying key functions, their roles and responsibilities.

What will you learn?
The Essentials of BIM, incorporating ISO 19650 course starts with the components of the Basics of BIM Course. It then introduces the information management processes outlined in the ISO 19650 series of standards. The course then develops the key functions, requirements, and responses, as well as the lifecycle approach and other core concepts, such as the Common Data Environment or CDE, COBie, nomenclature, as well as other standards, methods, and procedures. The course covers practical requirements for implementing Information Management, as well as clarifying the basic components needed to make it work.

· Multiple-choice examination with Pass required for acceptance on the Principles of BIM training course for LRQA certification requirements.

The Essentials of BIM, incorporating ISO 19650 course and passing the multiple-choice examination provides the first gateway towards LRQA BIM Professional Certification. It also provides entrance criteria to the Principles of Information Management Course and examination.
